National Biodiversity Action Day, 20 May 2017

Dear Gobabeb Friends

Our Youth Environmental Summit 2017 kicked off this weekend. Some 31 Grade 11 learners from the Karas, Khomas and Erongo Regions arrived at the station, and will be conducting studies that address this year’s theme of “Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism”.

We acknowledge the generous contribution of the Embassy of Finland through the Fund for Local Cooperation in supporting this year’s event. In addition, our partners, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) provided the transport to bring the participants to the desert. Following the activities during the coming week, the learners will present their findings at the National Biodiversity Action Day at Gobabeb on Saturday 20 May. This public event is being organised by MET, and a draft programme and advertisement are attached for your information.

Accommodation is available for those wanting to overnight at the station. Please contact Leena Kapulwa to make arrangements ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or 064-694198/9).

We do hope that you will be able to join us at Gobabeb for an entertaining and educational event in celebration of both International Biodiversity Day (22 May 2017), and the promise of next-generation scientists!
