Gobabeb has been hosting students from Dartmouth College for four years during their annual study-abroad programme to southern Africa. Whilst at Gobabeb, these students conduct a range of research projects that include ecological as well as socio-economic topics.
These research projects usually also touch on issues that impact on the lives of Gobabeb’s neighbours, the rural Topnaar community.
In appreciation of local support for the Dartmouth initiative, the College has undertaken to support Topnaar learners by providing schooling bursaries. This year’s recipient, Daniel Kooitjie, has excelled in Grade 7 at JP Brand Primary School, where is also served the school community as Head Boy. Dartmouth has pledged to support him further as he progresses to Grade 8 at Coastal High School in Swakopmund. An additional learner, Hansina Bees, currently in Grade 6, will also receive support in 2017.
Both these learners are deserving candidates from our local community and we wish them well as they progress in their school careers.
