Participants attending the 4th OSISA (Open Society Initiative in southern Africa) Journalism Summer School in Swakopmund visited Gobabeb on Saturday 25th June. Some 30 southern Africa journalists were introduced to the natural history of the central Namib Desert,
and heard about the history and mandate of the centre. Several of Gobabeb’s current research and training activities were showcased. This excursion, organised by the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), gave an opportunity to exchange ideas on the role of the media in communicating research results and how scientists can be supported to make their work understood and appreciated by a wider audience.
