Research

Interested in doing research at Gobabeb?

Gobabeb annually hosts more than 250 researchers from across the globe, who study in fields ranging from desert ecology and biodiversity to atmospheric sciences and meteorology. These networks  and our in-house research programmes endeavour to build capacity for research in Namibia.

Gobabeb works with international agencies such as NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), and the MPI (Max Planck Institute), amongst others, in monitoring and validating environmental information that is crucial to understanding the dynamic climate of the Earth. See more here.

Gobabeb is also engaged in understanding the agricultural and herding practices of the indigenous ≠Aonin people, that have enabled them to live successfully for centuries in the Namib.  (see more here.)

The Namib Ecological Restoration and Monitoring Unit (NERMU) provides a scientific service to the mining industry in the central Namib.

Gobabeb welcomes researchers from around the world. You can see more about our research facilities and activities here.

For more information, please see our research brochure, printable as a three-fold pamphlet, or as a sheet.

If you have an idea for a research project, contact us at research@gobabeb.org. We can advise you on the research permit application process.
